Go over and complete Journal #1, which will contribute to a major grade at the end of the unit. Journal #1: (Finish this prompt with a complete page- be very descriptive!) "Once I almost..." Tues 9/12: Punctuation practice in preparation for writing: quotation marks and commas. Wed 9/13: How to cite text evidence in a formal paragraph, from the page protector notes. Thurs 9/14: (Adjusted schedule for author visit, Scott Reintgen) Read "Swimming for Her Life" from Scope magazine and complete text evidence practice activity. Fri 9/15: Continue "Swimming for Her Life" activities, including vocabulary practice and a quiz on comprehension skills and formal writing with text evidence. ScheduleMon 9/4: Labor Day. No school. Tues 9/5: Objective summary & text structure with Thinking Maps. Fill in vocabulary guided notes for objective summary, bias, paraphrase, and plagiarize. HW: Bring multiple colors of highlighters (if you have them) tomorrow. Wed 9/6: (Adjusted schedule for fundraiser kickoff assembly) Formal paragraph writing for developing an argument (A Good Paragraph Looks Like This). Fill in vocabulary guided notes for argument and claim. HW: First Media Circulation tomorrow. Thurs 9/7: Introduce Article of the Week choice board. Students will see examples of choice board options in stations and start working on Article of the Week (AoW) #1, due at the end of class tomorrow. 2nd half of class: Media Circulation. Fill in vocabulary guided notes for context. HW: Bring a book to read during warm-up tomorrow. Fri 9/8: Finish AoW stations and AoW1 due at the end of class. Welcome! I look forward to a great school year with you. The Language Arts unit pages will always be updated in the following format. Schedule: A detailed description of our daily activities and assignments. To be edited/updated at the start of the week and during the week. Check frequently! Files available for download: Not all papers/presentations in Language Arts will have a file available for download, but most will. If a paper or resource is lost, students should reprint from home or from a school computer (during an appropriate time! Not in the middle of class!). Schedule:Mon 8/28: Introduction to 7th ELA, getting to know you, & introduction to Unit 1 themes. HW: Have a 3-ring binder and plastic page protectors in class by Friday 9/1. Tues 8/29: "Where I'm From" modeled poem assignment begins, due Friday. Wed 8/30: "Where I'm From" Thurs 8/31: "Where I'm From" HW: Final draft of "Where I"m From" due tomorrow; we will only have a little class time to do finishing touches. Bring your 3-ring binder and plastic page protectors to class tomorrow! We will be setting up our LA binder or "notebook," which will be a required organizational tool. Fri 9/1: Finish "Where I'm From" poems and set up LA notebooks. Receive notes/tips packet that will stay in your notebook ALL YEAR so don't throw it away! HW: Bring 5 different color highlighters to class Wednesday 9/6. NO SCHOOL MONDAY!
